Love and Old Age in Seahorses
A new study of Hippocampus whitei (White's Seahorse) shows not only that seahorses are long lived, but it's the first study that showed seahorses pairing together over multiple seasons. So it may in fact be that H. whitei does in fact mate for life. Only 3 pairs had serial monogamy, but others in the group did not repair up unless one mate was lost, the assumption being due to predation.
They also found the oldest seahorse "grandma" was five and a half years old. While seahorses in captivity live longer than that, we now have proof that they live a long time in the wild. The study was only 5 years long, so it's going to be possible to find they get even older in the future.
